composition II midterm study
Over the course of several weeks, I generated material for, at that point, my longest study thus far in my Composition II course. The material is comprised of 8 measures of slow 3/4 time, 8 measures of fast 5/8 time, 30 seconds of slow movement, 15 seconds of quick movement, a moment of stillness, and 8 measures of combined phrases. After weeks of movement generation, I was instructed by Susan Hadley to put my study to music. I chose "Avril 14" by Aphex Twin. I found inspiration in the repetition, the sectional nature, and the lull this piece of music left me in.

analysis midterm study
My Analysis midterm is a study exploring the use of two basic action drives, Float and Dab, as defined by Rudolf Laban. I used these efforts to manipulate the phrasing of my composition material. I chose these specific effort qualities in accordance with affinity for light movement. Through this process, I found myself influenced by each action drive's individual components: light, indirect, sustained, sudden, and direct.
The choreography performed in this study is also featured in my midterm study for composition (see top of page). There is a notable difference between these two studies, despite the choreography being similar. In the analysis study, I manipulate movement qualities and time to illustrate the two basic action drives I explored- Float and Dab.
